Ticket seller didn’t speak much English, gestured I scan the QR code on the sheet of paper she gave me. I was to download an app and all the audio logs if I wanted to access the audio guide. She also gave me a pair of wireless earbuds, which unfortunately could not be connected to my phone. Toilet was in another building. Expected more artifacts from “the great Ottoman empire”, but it was rather underwhelming, with half of it being essentially Greek history and artifacts. A lot of tourists were also touching the artifacts and what little security guards they had were hiding in dark corners on their phones.

The collection is impressive, with many fascinating artifacts and exhibits that are well presented. Unfortunately, some sections were closed for renovation during my visit, so I wasn’t able to see everything. That said, what was open was still enjoyable and informative.

One of the great museums of the world! If you are fortunate enough to visit Istanbul, please fence time to see the Archaeological Museum of Istanbul. The one artifact that you must see is the only remaining snake head from the tri-headed snake from the snake at the Hippodrome in Istanbul. This was stolen from the Sanctuary of Apollo at Delphi.
